I am currently looking for players for a bi-weekly Savage Worlds Rome campaign. We would play everyother week (ideally), most likely on Wednesday nights starting around 5:30pm. We have 2 players so far, looking for 2-3 more to bring the party up to 4-5.
Savage Worlds is an award winning generic RPG system with a focus on simplicity, speed of play and the ability to run large large combat scenes without getting bogged down in endless rules, charts and tables.
The campiagn setting / premise is a low-fantasy version of the Roman Empire circa. 128 CE, in the 11th year of the reign of Emperor Caesar Publius Aelius Traianus Hadrianus Augustus. The players are a group of indendent scouts (exploratores) and intellegence agents (speculators) assigned to the staff of the Proconsul of Britannia. Two years of extreme weathers and bad harvests have left the British tribes restless and sullen. Throughout villages and oppidum (hillforts) across the province, mutterings of discontent with Roman rule can be heard. There are those that even whisper that the Gods are displeased with the inavders and the Britons abandonment of the Old Ways, stamped out when the Roman Legions destroyed the power of the Druidic circles that dominated British life. In the far north, across the Wall even more dire rumors are filtering down from the merchants who risk trade with the fierce and untamed tribes of the Caledonii. Whispers of dark spirits in the forests, strange omens, and creatures out of the old tales stalking the night. The Romans have learned to take such rumors seriously after hard lessons learned on the frontier in dark forests and forbidding of Germania and the disaster in the Teutoborger forest. The players have been dispacthed, along with other groups to head north to gather intellegence about the unrest and rumors coming down from beyond the Wall, and have been given wide latitude and authority to accomplish thier mission.
Players can be Roman Legionaries, native (British) scouts, spies, assassins, priests or Imperial Theurgists (mages).
Emphasis will be on exploration, problem solving, role playing in a unique setting, and of course - hard fighting!
